A precisely formed aluminum plane is set into an engineered wood panel whose laminated structure suggests control, repetition, and manufacture. The metal does not bend, accommodate, or visually assimilate to those conditions. It maintains its geometry. Within the Contingent series, the work examines the tension between material history and imposed order: the wood retains evidence of contingency, while the aluminum asserts a geometry largely indifferent to it.
